Ultrasound of Brain May Prove effective Treatment for Depression - TopNews New Zealand

Ultrasound of Brain May Prove effective Treatment for DepressionDr. Stuart Hameroff from University of Arizona has gone through a study. After going through the study, he also thought to ultrasound the human brain.

The technique was to be used as a treatment for conditions like depression and anxiety. He had a word with his anesthesiology colleagues, who suggested him that he should try the technique on himself.

Acting on the suggestion of colleagues, Hameroff tried the technique. He applied an ultrasound transducer for 15 minutes and found his mood elevated for next two hours.

He decided to test the treatment and enrolled 31 chronic pain patients at The University of Arizona Medical Center-South Campus. The study's nature was a double blind study in which doctor and volunteer are not aware that whether the ultrasound machine is on or off.

After carrying out the test, it has been found that the patients have witnessed improvements in mood for up to 40 minutes but same thing was not witnessed by people when the machine was on off mode.

In order to confirm the findings, study researchers said that positive mood of patients was found to be increased when it was measured with a Visual Analog Mood Scale, or VAMS.
